Power Tools: Woodworking And More…
By Dana Bradley
There are several power tools that one can use for their next project. One of the most common tools available in the market today is a router which is generally used to hollow out an area of the wood. Once upon a time, it was used by pattern creators and staircase makers and consisted of a broad based wooden hand plane with a narrow blade projecting well beyond its base plate.

Power tool routers are known as router planes. The former spindle moulder, the traditional moulding planes, have been taken over by modern routers. This has been used for edge decoration moulding on various projects.

A router is a tool which typically consists of a base covering an upright mounted electric motor with a collet on the end of its gleam. Bit is having a feature of adjusting the height which allows projection through an opening in a flat sole plate, usually by means of adjusting the motor mounting height, but the factor of adjusting of height is dependent upon the manufacturer. A router is controlled from a handle or a knob which is generally available on each side of the device or by “D handle” which is the most recently created function to control the router.

You will come across many manufacturers’ of router who are established in the market today. But basically there are only two types of router that is plunge and fixed. While using a plunge base router it is the sole of the base which is placed on the face of the work with the cutting bit raised above the work and thereafter the motor starts working and the cutter is lowered into the work. In case of a fixed based router the cut depth is set before the tool is turned on, after that the sole plate is either rested flat on the work section overhanging the edge so that the cutting bit is not contacting the work, or else the sole plate can be placed at an angle with the bit above the work and after this process the bit is rocked.

If you place the tool in an upturned direction below router tables which can be used as a small spindle shaper this is an option which you can utilize whenever it’s needed. In the similar manner machine is mounted below a table to a circular saw mounted like a table saw. Due to this, it is advisable that the work is passed through a long fence.
