Advice On The Purchase And Care Of Furniture
By Stefan Teek
Unless you live in an RV, you need furniture for your home. Buying furniture is all about understanding what you are getting into. Here are some tips as well as some advice on caring for it.

1. Antique Furniture Authenticity – If you are looking at expensive antiques, make the dealer prove to you he or she knows what they are selling. If they don’t, how do you know if it is real?

2. 20 Percent Furniture Discount – When buying furniture, it is important that ask for a discount. A good starting point is to ask for 20 percent off. Dealers will often give it.

3. Mattress Pricing – The price of a mattress is reflective of only one thing – what they store thinks they can get for it. Price does not mean quality.

4. Written Furniture Warranty – Get them in writing! Promises from sales people or managers are worthless. If your furniture warranty is not in writing, the store is not required to do anything if you have problems.

5. Buying New Furniture Strategy – Much like the chicken and the egg quandary, should you buy all your furniture at once or piece by piece? In general, going slowly is the better choice.

6. Slip Sliding Furniture – If you need to move furniture around a house, you can do it easily now. An enterprising company has pads you can place on the bottom of the legs that slide.

7. When to Clean Wood Furniture – If you have wood furniture, you are in for good news. It really only needs to be cleaned when there is a wax build up.

8. Finding A New Mattress – If it is time for a new mattress, you need to try them out. Make sure to wear slippers or flip flops so you are not constantly taking shoes on and off.

9. Squeaky Wood Beds – If you have a big wood bed and it squeaks, you are being warned the joints may be coming loose. Have it checked out.

10. Potpourri and Furniture – As strange as it may sound, potpourri will destroy the finish on your furniture. Don’t even sit the bag on it.

To effectively buy furniture, you need to be able to do some mental imaging. A piece in a store may look great, but will it look good in your home? The answer may be no, so make sure to visualize before buying.
