Popular Wood Types For Home Furniture
By woodfurniture-15379
Certain wood species have been known to make excellent home furnishings better than others. The most common properties in using one is the natural grain pattern and how lovely they can look when finished with the usual varnishes and staining hand-rubbed oils. And there are many that have great grain.

The other equally important aspect to consider is their hardness and durability. But the harder it gets, the more laborious it gets to fashion them with ease. So more often than not, they look at other wood species that can compromise between durability and the ease to make them into furniture.

Here are a few common types or species of wood common is furniture building.

Mahogany
One of the most commonly used, its natural color is closer to orange than red but most finishes end up with a stained dark red color. Mahogany is the first choice among high end fine furniture carpentry.

Cherry
This is another favorite for making shelves and cabinets as well as for hobby woodworks. While it can be stained to produce darker shades, cherry wood comes naturally in light yellowish hue that often brightens the room were they stand.

Teak
Definitely one of the hardest hardwoods that also lends beautifully in make carvings, Teak wood has excellent decay resisting qualities that it has come to be a favorite for outdoor furniture and ship building as well. It is naturally brown to dark golden brown.

Beech
Together with Cherry, Beech wood is a favorite for light wood grained furniture as it naturally light brown and almost beige. It is perhaps second to mahogany as a common wood for most furniture.

Red Oak
One of the hardest hardwoods that are difficult to carve, Red Oak stains easily and reveals a deep red or pink natural grain. It makes excellent doors and flooring that can last more than a lifetime.

Walnut
This wood can have the finest sheen and finish that it has become a preferred material for wooden musical instruments and decorative paneling as well. Some of the finest table and cabinet finishes are in walnut.
